Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt are suing tabloid over breakup story

Game on! Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie are taking legal action against the British tabloid News of the World for its story last month that alleged the couple were working out details of a split.

"The News of the World has failed to meet our clients' reasonable demands for a retraction of and apology for these false and intrusive allegations which have now been widely republished by mainstream news outlets," a lawyer working for the couple in London said in a statement. "We have advised them to bring proceedings, which they have now done."

In a letter cited in that statement, Sorrell Trope, the divorce attorney whose name was mentioned in the NOTW article, denied that he was in touch with the couple.

The Jan. 24 article, which was picked up by the Drudge Report late Jan. 23, the night of the Screen Actors Guild Awards, immediately caused a rip in the celebrity space-time continuum. Then on Jan. 25, the Monday after the Globes, the Ministry of Gossip treated the claims as a total joke, much to the dismay of readers clicking through for hard news.

Hayley Barlow, a spokeswoman for the News of the World, had no comment on the court filing.

Angelina displaces Oprah as Forbes Most Powerful Celeb

Hollywood actress Angelina Jolie has unseated Oprah Winfrey as the most powerful celebrity of 2009 but the talk show queen is still raking in big money with an earning of USD 275 million dollars a year.

The Forbes list of most powerful celebrities have five men and women in the top ten but the women take the top four positions in the order of Jolie, Winfrey, Madonna and Beyonce Knowles with Jennifer Aniston at number eight.

Despite the sex scandal that exploded at the end of the year, golf champion Tiger Woods led the men at the number five position followed by singer Bruce Springsteen and Hollywood director Steven Spielberg.

Jolie's partner Brad Pitt came in ninth after his ex-wife Aniston and the tenth spot went to American basketball star Kobe Bryan whose popularity soared after the US victory at the Beijing Olympics.

A mix of money and fame have plummeted the Mr and Mrs Smith actress to the number one position, according to the Forbes analysis, which finds that last year Jolie raked in the moolah from movies like Kung Fu Panda and Wanted while remaining a media favorite because of her relationship with Pitt and her philanthropic work.

Oprah has been consistently losing her viewership but this hasn't impacted her earnings and next year the celebrity will roll out the Oprah Winfrey Network in partnership with Discovery Communications.

The Queen of Pop Madonna grabbed the number three spot for pulling off top grossing international tour of 2008 that raked in USD 280 million and grabbing headlines for adopting another Malawian baby as well as for the end of her marriage to British filmmaker Guy Ritchie.

Forbes noted that, last year, Woods did not make money from playing golf due to a leg injury but instead found a way to rope in the cash from designing golf courses, which are underway in North Carolina and Dubai while another plan was announced for Mexico.

Woods also got a hefty chunk of earnings from endorsements, his biggest sponsor Nike, with golf sales of USD 725 million last year. Following revelations about the series of extra-marital flings, Pepsi Co dropped Woods but Nike has confirmed it will stick with the golfer.

US President Barack Obama became the first head-of-state to enter the celebrity list at number 49 with earnings of USD 2 million from the sales of his two books Dream of My Father and The Audacity of Hope.

"The 44th president of the United States is the most famous person in the world," Forbes said.

"Obama could certainly earn tens of millions of dollars a year giving speeches full time," the magazine added. The celebs who fell from the Forbes top 100 list due to a drop in earnings and visibility included singer Justin Timberlake (former number 12), actor Johnny Depp (former number six) supermodel and television personality, Tyra Banks (former number 67) and popstar Jennifer Lopez (former number 54).

ANGELINA Jolie had a nose job.

According to new book Brad Pitt & Angelina Jolie: The True Story by Jenny Paul, the actress’ puffy lips are real, but she had work done on her hooter when she was younger and some laser eye surgery.

The book also claims that Jolie and her partner, Brad Pitt, have five nannies for their six kids, and part of their duties is to home-school the children.

In 2005, when cops burst into the celebs’ hotel room in Kenya, it wasn’t because they were too loud having sex, it was because someone thought they smelled pot and called police, who raided the room and found nothing, the book says.

Meanwhile, it has been claimed that Jolie infuriated Pitt by comparing his beard to Johnny Depp’s facial hair.

Angelina is currently shooting new movie The Tourist with the Pirates of The Caribbean hunk.

“It was just a joke but Brad clearly got a little rattled,” a source said. “Ange and Johnny get on well, as do Brad and Johnny but there is clearly an edge of rivalry between them — right down to their facial fuzz!”

Jennifer Aniston's revenge on Angelina Jolie: a very sexy photo-shoot

Celebrities have far-reaching and glamorous ways of exacting revenge on their ex-partners. They do it in the pages of glossy fashion magazines and in interviews with Vanity Fair. Next month’s W magazine features Jennifer Aniston and her co-star in her latest film The Bounty Hunter, Gerard Butler, posing as a couple on the cover and a fashion spread inside.

The photographer for the shoot is Steven Klein, who back in July 2005 also shot Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie posing as a 1960s married couple around the time his affair with Jolie became public: the story was called, “Domestic Bliss”. The piece sparked outrage in the celebrity gossip press and led to Aniston tearfully telling an interviewer that her soon-to-be ex husband was missing “a sensitivity chip.” The Pitt/Jolie shoot was to promote the 2005 film Mr & Mrs Smith (it was on the set of that film that the pair fell in love and Pitt left his wife, Aniston). Followers of the A-list love triangle saga will not fail to notice the similarity in the images – and the distinct “see where I am now?” sentiment in Aniston’s latest publicity move.

Last month’s Architectural Digest magazine also featured Aniston on the cover and pictures of her home in the Hollywood Hills which she helped design. She and Pitt often talked about their shared love of architecture and interior design. The piece reports that her house “originally had his-and-hers bath[rooms] but Jen turned ‘his’ [bath] into a spa bath with a soaking tub.” In the W shoot, Aniston models stockings and suspenders, a $1,695 Alberta Ferretti’s thinner-than-air silk chiffon dress and various pieces of Agent Provocateur underwear. As the adage says, revenge is a dish better served cold, and Aniston let hers cool for five years.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie Affectionate Night Out at DGA awards

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie stepped out Saturday night to attend the Directors Guild of America Awards in Los Angeles – and observers say the couple were as happy as can be.

"They looked very giggly," an onlooker tells PEOPLE.

Pitt, who was at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza to introduce his Inglourious Basterds director Quentin Tarantino, was an attentive companion to Jolie, a surprise guest, who wore a gray, single-shoulder Elie Saab gown with gold hoop earrings by Ofira Schwartz, Stuart Weitzman shoes and a vintage bag.

Pitt, whose curious beard has been trimmed, pulled Jolie's chair out for her and touched her back throughout the night as they chatted animatedly with Tarantino at a table of colleagues from the film.

"They look like they are having a fun time," says an onlooker of the couple as they worked the room. "It's definitely a date."

While Pitt spoke on stage, Angelina sat and smiled. Here's BBC video of her.

Brad & Angelina Conquer Awards Season by Not Showing Up

Whether or not they still consider themselves a couple, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie totally conquered the headlines this week as a team.

Not that either one of them did anything. But the beauteous parents of six haven't been seen together since Christmastime and Brad has skipped the red-carpet season, despite Inglourious Basterd's glorious showing.

Hmm, curiouser and curiouser...

We've also got Jay on Oprah, a look at the SAG Awards, Idol chatter and seven days' worth of news squished together, all right here in your Week in Review:

1. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have been together for nearly five years. (No one will ever know the true date on which Brangelina was conceived.) They have six kids, three adopted and three of their own. And they're unarguably lovely to look at. So is that why it seems as if the tabloids aren't willing to rest until they've broken up? The duo have thrived in the face of breakup rumors before, but their lack of face time on the red carpet this awards season—and now Angie's skipping the Oscars!—have inquiring minds wondering more than ever before. E! News did its best to dismantle a report that Jolie cheated, but the glossies are quite persistent. And you know who gets to share those covers when Brangelina are said to be in trouble... (Hint: It's not Jon Voight.)

2. Instead of endearing himself to fans with an appearance on Oprah, who acknowledged that America has "taken sides," Jay Leno further antagonized on-again late-night rival Jimmy Kimmel with that whole "sucker punch" comment. Calling his retirement announcement years ago a "white lie" and admitting to not calling Conan since he re-took over the Tonight Show might not have helped, either.

3. Johnny Depp is A-L-I-V-E (gosh-dang Internet hoaxters) and, as far as we're concerned, doing very, very well.

4. Brittany Murphy's husband, Simon Monjack, says he blames Warner Bros. Pictures for causing the grief that led to his 32-year-old wife's cardiac arrest, saying Murphy never recovered from being fired off of Happy Feet 2. The studio dares the grieving widower to sue, calling any suggestion that they contributed to Murphy's death "demonstrably false, reprehensible and defamatory." Aside from the fact that she wasn't under contract and therefore couldn't be fired, according to WB, no lawyer we talked to has ever heard of such a claim going the distance in court.

5. So much promise, so much buzz... in 2006. Without further ado, Ugly Betty's cancellation was confirmed this week, its 22-episode season getting pared down to 20 and the window for securing Chris Gorham's return growing just a little smaller. And here's hoping Betty finds a new orthodontist who's not in love with her so that those braces can come off!

6. In further tube talk: We—and you!—loved Neil Patrick Harris on American Idol...Samantha Harris is leaving Dancing With the Stars...peep the first four minutes of Lost's season premiere...Victoria Beckham's headed to The View...Jason Mesnick's going to marry Molly Malaney, the one he almost let get away, on, you guessed it, TV!...Mad Men's cast is in flux.

7. Inglourious Basterds was the big cheese at the 2010 SAG Awards and The Hurt Locker was praised by the PGA. Avatar, though not a showcase for actors, continued to just make cheese, surpassing Titanic to become the top-grossing film ever...See if you can spot next year's Oscar-buzz films, and catch up with Kristen Stewart, Dakota Fanning, Ryan Gosling, James Franco, Katie Holmes and Orlando Bloom with our 2010 Sundance Film Festival coverage.

8. Legal Wrangling: Case dismissed for Kanye West...Michael Lohan arrested again...The alleged John Travolta extortionists will be retried starting Sept. 6...Nancy Kerrigan's brother was locked up for allegedly assaulting their dad, who died suddenly...Michael Douglas' son, Cameron, copped to drug charges, is looking at a minimum of 10 years in prison...Pete Doherty was fined rather than imprisoned for bringing heroin to court...Someone broke into Susan Boyle's home...Adrian Pasdar celebrates not being on Heroes anymore with a DUI bust...Nancy Grace doesn't always get her way when it comes to being on camera...Kiefer Sutherland was roped into a cattle con...Andy Dick was accused of molesting a barkeep...Gary Coleman was locked up and bailed out by movie producers who now get to keep Coleman's penis in their film.

Family Life Wearing on Angelina Jolie, Brad Pitt, Says Source

Rumors that Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were breaking up may have been false, but a source close to the couple claims their relationship is in trouble, according to Us Weekly.

The magazine reports that Jolie feels she is doing most of the work parenting their six kids. "Angie felt like Brad wasn't pulling his weight," an unnamed source said. With their children at different ages -- Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5, Shiloh, 3, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 18 months -- Jolie is reportedly exhausted keeping up with them. "She has nannies, but she wants to do it herself," the source said. "Her kids are all in different stages now, running around, needing attention."

The source claims the actress has become more demanding of her 46-year-old partner. "She'll yell at [Pitt] when he makes the eggs too runny or burns something," the source said.

Earlier this month, reports circulated that the superstars had met with a divorce attorney to divide their estate and determine the custody of their children, several friends say the rumors are "totally false," according to People. "Everything is fine," said one unnamed source.

London's News of the World reported on Sunday that Pitt and Jolie met with high-profile divorce lawyers in California. "The paperwork is already organized for a breakup - and for it to be as unmessy for them as possible," the paper reported. "The contract was like a tailor-made version of a prenuptial agreement ... It seemed clear they want the world to know they'll both play a part in the upbringing of the children."

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie Were 'Out at Dinner' When Split Rumors Broke

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie weren't fretting over recent false reports that they were headed for splitsville. As the rumor mill was spinning out of control, the couple of nearly five years were enjoying some quiet time together, a source tells PEOPLE.

"Angie and Brad were actually out to dinner together in Los Angeles when the rumor broke," says the source. "That's how ridiculous [the story] is."

At the time, multiple sources told PEOPLE the report, which originated in a British tabloid, was "totally false."

Currently, the pair are sharing family time in Los Angeles with their kids Maddox, 8, Pax, 6, Zahara, 5, Shiloh, 3, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 18 months.

As for whether Hollywood's golden couple will attend this year's Academy Awards together in March, at the moment their schedule includes filming so they don't have plans to be there, says a source.

Insider says Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie did meet with lawyer - to protect their $330 million assets

We hear Brad Pitt isn't planning to come a-knockin' - just yet, anyway.

After days of speculation about a possible breakup between Mr. Pitt and his other half, Angelina Jolie, word is surfacing that the power couple did indeed visit a high-powered L.A. lawyer last week - but only to cover their assets.

"They aren't married, so they need to protect their children and property in case there's a rift in the future," a source says.

That certainly makes sense, considering the two are worth a whopping $330 million combined.

So why are rumors of a breakup running rampant?

"People hear 'legal papers' and assume it means a divorce," our snitch continues. "But it could mean exactly the opposite. Either way, they're making sure to get their ducks in a row, which they'll need whether they split or stay together forever."

That's not the only reason for so many whispers: Rumors started swirling when the couple was a no-show to a pair of recent award programs.

"There was a lot of talk when they didn't attend the Globes or the SAG awards this past weekend," says the insider.
"But that's not entirely out of the ordinary for them. Although 'Inglourious Basterds' was nominated, Brad wasn't up for anything individually, and neither was Angelina. Besides, they're Brangelina. They can do whatever they want."

Most recently, that includes adding a $1.1 million mansion to their five-house compound in Los Feliz, Calif. While naysayers speculate it could be a bachelor pad for Brad, staffers at the Waldorf-Astoria in NYC - where the A-list duo stays regularly - believe Jolie-Pitt are very much still intact.

"They always seem happy and busy with the kids," one staff member told us Tuesday, adding that Brangelina most recently visited in November. "And they're never here apart."
