Angelina Jolie asks Obama to do more for Sudanese People

Actress and humanitarian Angelina Jolie wants President Obama's administration to take greater steps towards establishing peace in Sudan.

Jolie, in her role as the co-chair of the Jolie-Pitt Foundation, wrote an op-ed piece for Newsweek magazine on Thursday, the day Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize.

Jolie wrote that Obama's administration has not yet announced any serious moves to bring corrupt Sudanese leaders to justice and said she is worried that the administration does not have a clear enough plan to improve the lives of the Sudanese people.

"I believe President Obama and his special envoy Scott Gration will do their best to bring peace to the region," Jolie, a U.N. goodwill ambassador, wrote. "Their policy, though, raises a number of questions.

How is the Obama administration's approach to Sudan an evolution of justice? In addition, when the administration says it intends to work to 'improve the lives of the people of Darfur,' I would like to know what that means, besides the obvious point that their lives could hardly get worse."

In the piece, headlined "Justice Delayed Is Not Justice Denied," Jolie suggests the administration "explore ways to bring [Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir] to justice." "This means bringing all permanent members of the U.N. Security Council on board to send the message that the international community will not tolerate mass atrocities," Jolie wrote.

She added, "I also hope we will act sooner and more powerfully to prevent future atrocities," and suggested the administration look to a Council on Foreign Relations report funded by the Jolie-Pitt Foundation that "offers recommendations to improve the U.N. Security Council's responsiveness by discouraging vetoes in cases of mass atrocities, while urging the United States to make clear its willingness to act on its own if necessary."

The actress and her partner Brad Pitt, who together have six children, created the Jolie-Pitt Foundation in 2006 and have used it to donate to a variety of
humanitarian causes and to fund research.

Angelina Jolie thinks Obama is one-and-done, says source

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie can be like their warring, married characters in "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" when it comes to presidential politics, sources tell Fox411.

"[Jolie thinks] President Obama is a great communicator but not interested in issues outside the United States," says a Hollywood insider close to the Oscar-winning actress. "Angelina has worked very hard to get first-person accounts of what is going on in the world with her briefings from the UN, [while] Brad is a 'Johnny Come Lately.'"

Jolie even thinks Obama will only last four years in the nation's highest office, says the insider, because of "a subtle arrogance in his delivery, [and] not living up to his promises."

A second source who has worked with the couple says that Pitt, 45, is more knee-jerk when it comes to supporting the administration's policies, but that Jolie, 34, has not thrown in the towel on the Illinois Democrat - yet.

"Brad's been a lot more automatically supportive of the President since he was elected," the insider tells Fox411. "Angelina is waiting to see how he delivers on campaign promises and world affairs during his [first] term."

Emails and calls for comment to reps for Jolie and Pitt were not immediately returned.

"Brad Come Lately" has indeed come calling to the White House more than Angelina since Obama took office. Recently released White House documents show that Pitt visited the White House sans Jolie twice since the President was elected.

Maybe he's just boning up for his next political sit-down with the missus?

"Angie and Brad have in depth political discussions and they do disagree and argue," says the pal. "[But] Brad credits Angelina with educating him greatly on world issues he was not a part of before they met."

The source says Jolie (whose father Jon Voight, with whom she recently reconciled, is a staunch Republican) sometimes even out-lefts her famously liberal lover.

"Angelina is far left in some beliefs, but then she sees many sides from the right [hand point of view]," says the pal. "She believes in hard work and teaching people how to make their lives better. She also believes in lifting people in need up with support through food, money and education so they can succeed."

And the parents of six both put their money where their mouths are. Together, the couple donated $6.8 million to charity in 2008 alone.

Angelina Jolie Not an Obama Supporter

Barack Obama does not have Angelina Jolie's seal of approval.

"She hates him," a source close to the U.N. goodwill ambassador, 34, tells the new issue of Us Weekly (on newsstands now).

"She's into education and rehabilitation and thinks Obama is all about welfare and handouts. She thinks Obama is really a socialist in disguise," adds the source.

But don't expect to see the Salt actress rally against Democrats on Fox News like her staunch Republican father, Jon Voight.

"Angie isn't Republican, but she thinks Obama is all smoke and mirrors," the source says.

And those political views are putting her at odds with Brad Pitt, 45, who is a big fan of the president and even went solo to the 2008 election party in Chicago.

"They get in nasty arguments all the time about it," says the source. "She doesn't respect Brad when it comes to politics, but, in the end, this won't tear them apart."

Brad Pitt, Oprah Winfrey Among White House Visitors

The star is one of several celebs who have visited the White House since President Barack Obama took office, according to White House records released on Friday.

In fact, Brad has made the trip twice.

Oprah Winfrey, a major backer of Obama during his presidential campaign, has also made a pair of appearances at the White House.

Other celebs who have made the trip include George Clooney, Denzel Washington, director Michael Moore and tennis star Serena Williams.

The White House’s most popular celeb, though, might be basketball legend Michael Jordan, whose name is listed eight times (as both “Mike” and “Michael”) – enough to wonder if the NBA great has gone one-on-one with the basketball-loving president.
