Confirmed: Angelina Jolie Signed on to Play Cleopatra

The Queen of Hollywood 'Angelina Jolie'  is indeed going to play the Queen of the Nile.

Angelina Jolie has signed on to play Cleopatra in a film adaptation of an upcoming new historical biography, a rep for the book's publisher Little, Brown confirms to UsMagazine.com.

On Thursday, it was reported that film producer Scott Rudin had acquired the rights to author Stacy Schiff's Queen of the Nile, Cleopatra: A Life with the 35-year old Jolie in mind for the title role.

Michael Pietsch, publisher of Little, Brown (which will release Schiff's book this November) tells Us:

"Angelina Jolie radiates grace and power, exactly the qualities that Stacy Schiff finds in her biography of the most intriguing ruler who ever lived."

No word on who might play Cleopatra's legendary love Mark Antony. (When Elizabeth Taylor played the ruler in a 1963 epic, her real-life paramour Richard Burton played the Roman politician.)

UN Ambassador Angelina Jolie Visits Daycare In Ecuador

After spending time with son Maddox at his school’s end of the year picnic, Angelina Jolie jetted off to Ecuador to visit a daycare center.

The actress, who is a United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and Goodwill Ambassador, stopped by at the center run by the Women’s Federation of Sucumbios province.

Jolie spent time speaking with the women at the center, listening intently as they told their stories.

There were some lighter moments on the rural trip. Jolie played with some of the children there, laughing as one little boy shyly turned away grinning as she offered him a toy cheeseburger.

Angelina Jolie spends a lonely pre-birthday lunch without Brad Pitt and her big brood

Actress Angelina Jolie was all alone at her pre-birthday lunch at a restaurant despite having six children, a dedicated boyfriend and millions of fans.
There was no sign of beau Brad Pitt as the actress, who turned 35 on Friday, was pictured leaving the restaurant in Los Angeles, looking sad and ultra skinny in a black strapless top and oversized sunglasses. She had just her assistant for company.

Jolie took some time off in Los Angeles before embarking on a promotional tour for her summer action thriller Salt.

Video: Angelina Jolie Goes on ET To Talk about Salt and Dangerous Stunts

She said on the show “They can hang me off of the side of a building or on a moving car or anything, and I trust that I’m going to be safe, so I can just play.”

What's in a Name? Brad and Angelina's daughter, Shiloh Jolie-Pitt

The unusual first name of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt's second daughter and first biological child was a major shocker when it was announced after her May 27, 2006 birth.  A "place name" best known as a Biblical city as well as the site of a Tennessee Civil War battle, Shiloh was originally intended as a name for Angelina's brother, James Haven. Jolie also reportedly used the name as an alias when she checked into hotels.

Shiloh debuted on the Social Security popular names list in 2007, the year after Shiloh Jolie-Pitt was born, and has been climbing ever since. It's now number 604, with nearly 500 little girls receiving the name in the last year counted. Though theoretically unisex, Shiloh has not cracked the Top 1000 for boys.

Shiloh's middle name, Nouvel, is in honor of French architect Jean Nouvel, a hero of architecture buff Brad's. Nouvel's most famous buildings include the Guthrie Theatre in Minneapolis and museums in Paris and Madrid.

Shiloh means "messiah" or "peaceful one" in Hebrew and Nouvel means "new" in French, so the name might be taken to mean New Messiah. Her nickname is Shi.

Shiloh, who's been photographed recently sporting a short haircut and boyish clothes, went through a period of answering only to the names John or Peter, Pitt told Oprah Winfrey in 2008.

While the name Shiloh could hardly be considered stylish, it does connect with two trends of the moment: "place names" and names that end with the "o" sound.  Other celebrity babies with place names include Kingston Rossdale, born just one day before Shiloh; Brooklyn Beckham and Bronx Wentz.  And those with name that end with an "o" sound include Bardot, infant daughter of David Boreanaz, and Lazaro, Gael Garcia Bernal's son.

Jon Voight Says 'Brangelina' Twins Just Like Mom and Dad

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s 22-month-old twins Knox Leon and Vivienne Marcheline continue to pique public interest, because unlike the rest of the Jolie-Pitt brood, these little ones are rarely snapped in public. But, according to Jolie’s father Jon Voight, the star-studded couple did a perfect job in producing a mini Jolie and mini Pitt.

“One takes after Angie and one after Brad, they are really amazing. But the twins are very distinct, they really are themselves,” a gushing Voight told Pop Tarts at this week’s Hollywood premiere of Disney’s latest flick “The Prince of Persia.”

“The boy is very quiet, he has this calming, relaxed personality that Brad has … and the girl, well she’s just stunning like Angelina. Just beautiful.”

SLIDESHOW: The Lovely and Talented Angelina Jolie

Voight recently reconciled with his daughter after years of estrangement stemming from a 2002 interview where he called her "unstable." Now, the family seems closer than ever.

The father and daughter were snapped enjoying some family time together in Venice, Italy in late February - marking their first public appearance together in years. According to numerous reports, it was Pitt who really encouraged Jolie to make amends with her father and judging from Voight’s glow, he couldn’t be happier.

And while Voight might not have been a prominent part of the twins’ lives since day one, the 71-year-old can still take at least a little credit for their charm and looks.

“Good genes,” he agreed with a laugh. “But Brad and Angelina are just incredibly good parents.”

And it sounds as though Pitt can rest assured that an off-screen sequel to “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” simply won’t happen between his leading lady and her co-star in “The Tourist” Johnny Depp.

According to In Touch Weekly, the two A-listers simply can’t stand each other as Depp thinks Ms. Jolie is snobbish while she is pretty peeved he didn’t scrub up a little better for the role…
